Case Study

Helping a Nonprofit Fill a Critical Staffing Need

The Challenge

Larkin Street Youth Services has been working since 1984 to help young adults who are experiencing homelessness in San Francisco. They provide a variety of support services, including healthcare, housing, employment, and education to get youth off the streets and into stable lives.

The organization faced an unusual set of circumstances that created several immediate openings in the HR department. As an organization with nearly 200 employees, this left a significant staffing hole that needed urgently to be filled to maintain daily operations.

Larkin Street turned to Next Level Strategies to help them build their HR department quickly and with well-qualified staff.

The Solution

NLS took a two-pronged approach. We first helped Larkin Street by placing four NLS consultants into various HR roles to restore operations in the HR department so the organization could continue to maintain key functions like recruiting, employee relations, leaves of absence administration and HR strategy.

We developed and implemented a search strategy to fill three regular positions, including HR Director, HR Manager, and Recruiter.

The Result

Thanks to NLS’s ability to draw on immediately available talent, Larkin Street was able to get its HR department operational with minimal interruption. To date, NLS has also filled two of their needed positions with candidates that have been carefully screened for skills, experience, and mission fit.

Larkin Street Youth Services now has a restored and re-energized HR department to enable it to continue pursuing its mission to help end youth homelessness in San Francisco.

“Next Level Strategies came in during a time of transition and was quickly able to identify, execute and facilitate the needs of HR and Recruiting.”
