Giving a New Restaurant Confidence in the Back Office

The Challenge

Tyler Florence is an accomplished chef with numerous Food Network shows and 11 books to his credit. In 2020, he was invited to open a restaurant in the new Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors, in San Francisco.

He envisioned a steakhouse, named Miller & Lux after two 19th-century cattle ranchers from the area, that would serve exceptional food in a luxurious atmosphere with top-notch service.

From the beginning, he knew the staff would play a huge role in delivering on his vision. Though Chef Tyler is an expert at food, he brought in NLS to ensure that the restaurant got off on the right foot with professional employment practices.

Having worked successfully in the past with NLS, the restaurant reached out to get the strategic HR services they needed.

The Solution

NLS was able to begin working with Miller & Lux before they even opened to make sure they had the policies, documents including an employee handbook, and training in place to bring staff on board in a professional, organized, and compliant way. NLS was able to deliver materials in both English and Spanish to meet the needs of the diverse workforce in the San Francisco Bay area.

After opening, Miller & Lux has continued to look to NLS to provide ongoing HR advice and support. NLS staff even participate in Miller & Lux’s weekly staff meetings, providing expert HR input into day-to-day employee relations challenges.
